Emergency guide

What to do after an accident?

The first 30 minutes decide the evidence, insurance payout and smooth claims settlement. Follow these 7 steps:

Step 1

Secure the accident scene

Hazard lights on, place the warning triangle at least 100 m behind the vehicle, put on a safety vest.

Step 2

Help the injured & call 112

Provide first aid and call emergency services immediately if anyone is injured.

Step 3

Call the police (110)

Always involve the police for personal injuries, major damage or disputes.

Step 4

Secure evidence

Photos of the damage, final positions of the vehicles, skid marks and road signs from several angles.

Step 5

Exchange details

Record name, address, insurance, license plates and contact details of all parties and witnesses.

Step 6

Appoint a vehicle expert

In liability cases the victim is entitled to an independent assessor — the opposing insurer pays the costs.

Step 7

Report & repair

Take the report to the workshop; residual and replacement values are documented — the insurer settles.

Pro tip: appoint Christopher Kiehm as your independent expert.

In a liability case the opposing insurer covers the costs — you keep full control of the process.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most important questions about vehicle reports.

In a liability case where you are not at fault, the opposing insurer covers the costs — the report is free for you. For own damage or valuation reports the price depends on the scope of damage or vehicle value.
